The payload weight is spread out over the truck bed where the 5th wheel rails are mounted to the frame directly so are more secure. For a king pin lock that's made right here in the US I recommend checking out the Blaylock EZ Lock King Pin Lock for 5th Wheel Trailers # BLTL-70-40D. This has a nice aluminum construction so it's going to resist the elements plus you can use the included Master Lock padlock for some of the other various Blaylock applications as well.
