Expert Answers about Fifth Wheel King Pin

  • Fifth Wheel King Pin Weight and Truck Payload Capacity
  • The hitch pin weight of 1400 lbs you stated is so close to your payload capacity, but that is not accounting for the 5th wheel hitch and rail weights or the loaded weight with cargo added. Tunda's are notorious for having a lower payload and in this case, I can't tell you it will be fine. The payload weight is spread out over the truck bed where the 5th wheel rails are mounted to the frame directly so are more secure. Unfortunately manufacturers don't test for the 5th Wheel Hitch weight...

  • Reese Titan Fifth Wheel Hitch Recommendation for 2018 Ram 2500 with Rail Kit and Reese Revolution
  • The 30866 you referenced is no longer available but the # RP30047 is and would be a great solution. It can easily be used with a Reese Revolution pin box. The correct rail adapter you'd need for this hitch to install in your 2018 Ram 2500 with the factory rail kit is the part # RP30154.

  • USA Made King Pin Lock Recommendation
  • The Buyers Products 2" King Pin Lock # 337KPL200 is made overseas per my contact at Buyers Products. For a king pin lock that's made right here in the US I recommend checking out the Blaylock EZ Lock King Pin Lock for 5th Wheel Trailers # BLTL-70-40D. This has a nice aluminum construction so it's going to resist the elements plus you can use the included Master Lock padlock for some of the other various Blaylock applications as well.

  • Will the Convert-A-Ball Gooseneck Coupler Adapter # CAB-C5G Handle Long Trips
  • You should have no problem using the Convert-A-Ball Gooseneck Coupler Adapter, # CAB-C5G, on a 1,200 mile trip as long as the gross weight of your trailer remains under 20,000 lbs and the pin weight is under 4,000 lbs. We had one customer comment that he has been using his adapter for over 20,000 miles and it is still working great. The only note I would add to this adapter is that there will be a noticeable difference in the ride quality if you are used to towing with a fifth wheel hitch....

  • How Long do Fifth Wheel Lube Plates Last
  • I talked with my contact at Cequent and he stated that the life of a plastic lube plate can vary depending on several factors. Pin weight, the smoothness of the components touching the plate, and where you are towing (dirt, gravel, highway) are all factors that can affect the life of the plastic lube plate.
